Here in Italy, August is the most popular month to be on vacation. Italians live for their holidays(vacations, as we americans know). They get several weeks of vacation a year and boy do they use it! August in Italy is very different from the rest of the year. Many shops and businesses will be closed for 2 weeks, some even close for the entire month. So, if you plan to come visit Italy, just keep this in mind. All the Italians head for the coast or the mountains, and everything inland is pretty much at a standstill. This may be the time to visit some places you have been wanting to see that are usually too busy with crowds(as long as you don't mind many of the shops and museums being closed).
